The Race To Supremacy
Automakers invest countless amounts of money to be on top of the food chain. They hire the best engineers, mechanics (most of the time), and designers to create vehicles that perform well. Quite frankly, everyone has his or her choice of favorite automaker, but there’s no denying that Audi should be high on the list of performers. Year after year Audi strives to create vehicles that offer performance and comfort. However, BMW and Mercedes have recently made drastic additions to their lineups. In the hopes to get ahead of the pack, Audi has invested $30.3 billion through 2018 to add to its lineup of vehicles.
That’s a
whopping amount of money to invest, but unbelievably, it is not the most an
automaker has invested in the hopes of obtaining the first place title. When I
saw that amount, I was sure Audi would be making space for at least fifteen to
twenty vehicles. I was taken aback when I read an article on Autoblog.net that
stated Audi would be introducing a grand total of eleven vehicles.

For years
German automakers have been
going head to head in the same vehicle market. Audi
utilizes the S4, BMW employs the M3, and Mercedes wields the C63 AMG. These
cars have fought each other fiercely and were built to negate the other. Let me
get philosophical for a moment. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes all need one another.
Like parasites, they feed off of each other. BMW has introduced a new M3 and
M4, so Mercedes engineers a new C63 AMG. Just like opposites attract, I
wouldn’t be surprised if Audi is in the process of designing a new S4.
Nobody
likes to be second, that’s the way of the world. The same remains true for the
automotive world. When one company begins
to be undersold, they spend numerous amounts of time and man-hours to build a winning
vehicle. With the amount of money Audi is spending to be in first place, I’m
certain a car battle will ensue. Auto manufacturers need each other; their
drive to be the best is the catalyst for automotive greatness. I’m excited at
the prospect of Audi creating eleven new vehicles, even if the budget is
outrageously colossal.
