Volvo’s Still At It
Pedestrians that run on the road instead
of the sidewalk are some of the most annoying’s people of all time. Not only do
they run in car lanes, but they also make drastic zigzagging movements that are
unpredictable. Many a times I have been scared that one of them will find
themselves on the hood of my car. Well if you’ve ever felt the same way, Volvo
has invented the perfect solution. Introducing the Volvo V40, the first vehicle
with airbags located at the base of the windshield, to protect pedestrians in
the case of an accident.
Volvo
has been rated as one of the safest auto manufacturers on the road for their
entire duration of existence. Their engineers make some of the best safety features
available today. Unlike other auto manufacturers, Volvo implements safety
measures that actually assist the driver and passengers in the instance of an
accident. Other auto manufacturers boast about night vision and passenger
airbags, while Volvo perfects and expands on their technology.
While
all of this sounds amazing, there is a major downside to increasing the amount
of safety technology in vehicles. Chris Burdick at Automoblog.net reveals the
downsides. “I am vehemently opposed to ‘active safety’ features…that allows
drivers to be less aware of their surroundings. They begin to rely on this
technology which not only is prone to failure, but what happens when they’re
driving a car without it and have gotten used to it?”
As
automotive advancements increase, driver’s ability to control their car
diminishes. Systems that are meant to help drivers lull them into a false sense
of security. Drivers wholeheartedly depend on these technologies instead of
using them as safety nets. These technologies were meant to help drivers, but
have ended up hurting them. Just goes to show that technology doesn’t always help.
