My Ultimate Unicorn Car

I believe that it started in fifth grade. My homeroom teacher allowed us to place pictures on our desks of anything appropriate. My peers decided to place pictures of famous bands, popular movies and sport stars on their desks. I was the only child that had decided to place supercars on their desk. A 2002 Lamborghini Murciélago coated in Giallo Taurus found a home on my desk.            As the current college semester comes to an end, everyone I know appears to be graduating and moving on to very serious jobs. While I remain at college for one more semester, to pursue my degree. In other words, it’s a very sentimental time in my life. Which got me thinking a lot about when my passion for cars came to life. Time for some inner reflection and as always, reflection starts with your first – the one that started everything.

For 2002, heck for any year, the Murciélago is considered to be completely bonkers. Still, to this day, the Murciélago looks like a spaceship instead of a car. Even when comparing it to other supercars of the time – Ferrari 360, Ferrari 575 Maranello and Ford GT – the Murciélago stood out more than an a thick slab of meat at a vegan dinner. And I loved it for that. It was mental and according to the reviews, you had to be an absolute lunatic to buy one.

Supercars are rare, that’s quite obvious. But if you know where to look, they almost become common. Car meets and one percent areas are great places to look for supercars. I’ve only seen one Murciélago in my entire life and it lasted for only a few seconds. But I still remember exactly how the silver beauty rocketed away leaving a heavenly burble in its wake.

With the recent snowstorms over and nicer weather heading to the Northern Virginia area, I’m excited at the prospect of seeing nicer cars. More specifically, I’m excited at my chances of seeing my unicorn car – the Murciélago. But that also means getting back to the bumpy windy roads that I enjoy driving so much. So no matter what you drive or how you drive it, take a second and enjoy the act of driving. You never know where it may lead you or what you may see.
