Lamborghini Needs To Build The Asterion, Now

It’s no secret that Lamborghini has fallen behind in the automotive scheme of
things. Yes, the automaker did release the amazing Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, but when considering what other exotic automakers
are doing, Lamborghini’s at the back of the pack.
The rampaging bull unveiled
their hybrid-powered-hypercar – the Asterion – earlier this month at the Paris
Auto Show. And I absolutely adore it. But it’s come to stand for everything
that I love and hate about the automaker.
If you’ve been living under a rock, or have completely ignored
all forms of automotive news, here’s a quick recap of the Asterion. It utilizes
the same 5.2-L V-10 from the Huracán LP 610-4,
which produces 610 hp and is then
coupled to three electric motors for a maximum of 910 hp.

What makes the Asterion even better is its classical
styling. Modern day Lamborghinis are sharp-edged monsters that look like they eat
horses for fun, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But the Asterion has that old-school-charm
that has long been gone from almost every automaker on the market today.
As you can tell, I simply adore the Asterion
and Lamborghini for that matter. They’re the automaker that got me into cars,
the reason why I even want to write about them. But I’ll be the first to admit
that they dropped the ball with this “technology demonstrator.”
Of course I’m referring to Ferrari’s,
McLaren’s and Porsche’s hybrid-powered-hypercars.

In a rare instance of either
pure luck or ingenuity, Lamborghini created something the world
needs right now – an overpowered, beautiful, overpriced hypercar capable of mind-bending
speeds while saving fuel. They even went above and beyond the other hypercar
automakers and created something that isn’t necessarily confined to the track.
I obviously don’t have the millions of
dollars required to get one of the multi-million dollar vehicles in questions,
but if I did, I’m not sure how well the in-production vehicles would do during
an extended drive.
The McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari are
hardcore track monsters built only to serve the need of rich individuals wanting
to put in fast lap times. You could use them on the road, but they wouldn’t be
comfortable. At least that’s what my theory states. The Porsche 918 Spyder isn’t
as raw as the other two, making it the easy choice for a lovely, scenic cruise.

If Lamborghini were to actually build
the Asterion, it would easily become the
go-to-hypercar for people who want to go driving off a racetrack. You see,
not only does the Lamborghini have the power to keep up with the trio, but it also
the interior to rival an 18th century mansion.
Would the Asterion have done well if it
went into production? Hell yes. Would
it have been the favorite of the three? Probably
not. Would it have brought Lamborghini out of the middle ages and into the technological
era? Absolutely.
The Asterion could’ve have done so many
things for Lamborghini. Instead it’ll go down as the prettiest, most technological
advanced Lamborghini to never hit the road. It’ll stand for everything
Lamborghini and the world needs, but something the automaker refuses to build.
Oh well. At least I have the Lamborghini
Aventador to look forward to. I heard kidneys have become quite popular on the
black market.
